Georgia Tech CEISMC Savannah Campus STEAMbreak is a program for students in 1st - 5th grade who are interested in discovering and learning more about science, technology, engineering, art, and math!

Each day is devoted to an area of STEAM. Students will use hands-on activities to explore the many different avenues of each area. It is a drop in program so projects are started and finished in the same day and students can attend as many or as few days as they would like without missing important information.

All sessions will run from 8:30 AM - 2:30 PM and take place at the Georgia Tech Savannah campus. Drop off begins at 8:00 AM and all participants should be picked up by 2:30 PM.

How many students will be in each program?
No more than 15 students will be in a room at a time. At least two staff members will be with students at all times. 
 
Will you sanitize and clean rooms often?
Yes. All rooms, desks, high-touch surfaces, and technology will be cleaned throughout the day. Hand sanitizer stations are located throughout the building as well and everyone is encouraged to use them frequently.

What is STEAMbreak?

Georgia Tech’s STEAMbreak is a week long program designed to enhance and encourage curiosity and enthusiasm for science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics.  Each day of the week will focus on an aspect of STEAM. During each program, students will experience different student-centered activities. Technology and art are a part of this experience, along with problem-solving, challenges, and cooperative activities. Both girls and boys will find fun and creative activities in our STEAMbreak sessions.

When is STEAMbreak?

STEAMbreak occurs during at the end of March/early April each year. STEAMbreak will run daily from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM. Drop off begins at 8:00 AM and students must be picked up by 3:00 PM.

How much does it cost to attend?

STEAMbreak is $75 per student per day or $375 for the whole week.

When is payment due?

Payment for STEAMbreak is due when you register.  Your registration is not complete without payment, and unfortunately, cannot be processed until we receive it.

How do I register?

Click here for registration. All parents must create an account on our official registration site. The registration site is secure and will retain the information that is input by the registrants.

What is the waitlist?

Our registration system will automatically generate a waitlist when a program is full. If there is availability, the registration system automatically sends an email to the participant at the top of the waitlist.

Where does STEAMbreak meet?

STEAMbreak is offered at the Georgia Tech-Savannah campus, 190 Technology Circle Savannah, Georgia 31407. The registration desk will be located in the front lobby of the EDRB building.

Could a STEAMbreak session be canceled?

While unlikely, CEISMC reserves the right to cancel a program at any time for any reason. If this should happen, a full refund would be issued. CEISMC also reserves the right to remove students during the program for a number of reasons we will disclose in your acceptance email. A refund for student misconduct or rule violations will not be offered.

Does my student need to bring anything?

Your student will be provided with all materials and supplies needed for success with STEAMbreak activities. Healthy snacks and lunches will be provided. If your student has any food allergies or intolerances, we recommend they bring a lunch from home. Please, no soda, candy, or gum. No, personal electronics allowed. CEISMC cannot be responsible for these devices.

How are students grouped?

Students are grouped by age and grade.

Who are the program instructors?

Programs are taught by a mixture of Georgia Tech staff/faculty, local college students, and area educators.

How do I get updates about STEAMbreak?

We post updates and important information on the website.  Some information will also be sent via email. EMAIL IS OUR PRIMARY MEANS OF COMMUNICATION. It is of the utmost importance that the parent email address you provide us on your registration is spelled correctly and checked often.

Will I get a refund if I need to cancel?

In order to keep our program as economical as possible, we are not able to offer refunds for any reason.

Can a student with disabilities attend STEAMbreak?

Students with disabilities are welcome in our programs. Please let us know how to best support your student to be successful in the programs either via email, an online registration form or directly with program staff. Your privacy is important to us and student information will only be shared with staff working with your child.

Do I need a teacher recommendation?

A teacher recommendation is not required to attend any CEISMC programs.

My child will be in kindergarten. Can he or she participate?

No. We cannot accept children who are not currently enrolled in 1st grade or higher at the time of the program.

Do you have scholarships?

We currently only offer scholarships for our summer programs.

If I go to one day, can I go to other days?

Yes, students can attend one day or all five days or any combination of those days. 

What about lunch? Food allergies?

Lunch is included and a healthy snack is provided in this program. No soda, candy, or gum. Please use our registration form to let us know about food allergies and any other special needs your student may have. If your students has any allergies we recommend bringing a lunch from home, as we our lunches are catered and we cannot guarantee the ingredients.

What if my student has other special circumstances or needs?

Please let us know how we can help using the registration form.

What about photography?

Unless you tell us differently, STEAMbreak may use photographs of your student in our materials.

What about the weather? Emergencies?

While unlikely, weather and other natural and emergency situations may occur beyond the program's control. If a partial program cancellation is required, no refund will be offered. An example would be a rainy-day early dismissal or late start time to accommodate safe traveling of staff, campers, and their families. Any short-term unforeseen weather or other emergencies will not be able to be refunded partially in any form.

Could an entire program be canceled?

If a program is not able to be offered at all, a full refund will be offered.
